About Us

Bass Concert Hall — photo 1

When the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition needed a stage worthy of the world's finest pianists, they chose Bass Concert Hall. That tells you something. Situated on the University of Texas at Austin campus at Robert Dedman Drive, this 2,900-seat auditorium has earned its reputation as one of the finest concert venues in the country, not through marketing language, but through what audiences actually feel the moment they walk inside.

The hall's acoustic design rewards every seat in the house. Section V patrons describe clear sightlines and a closeness to the stage that makes even large-scale productions feel intimate. The architecture commands attention from the outside too, an exterior that stops visitors in their tracks before a single note is played. Staff consistently earn praise for their warmth and helpfulness, turning first-time visitors into regulars.

Texas Performing Arts, the presenting organization behind Bass Concert Hall, books an extraordinary range of programming: touring Broadway productions, symphonic film experiences like The Lord of the Rings performed live with full orchestra, international competition finals, and solo recitals. Whatever brings you through those doors, you leave having experienced Austin at its cultural peak.

What We Offer

Texas Performing Arts at Bass Concert Hall presents a season that spans classical, theatrical, and contemporary performance. Broadway touring productions bring full-scale stagings with professional casts to Austin audiences who would otherwise travel to New York or Chicago. Orchestral and chamber music events, including world-renowned competition showcases, fill the hall with acoustic precision that audiophiles travel across the state to experience.

Cinematic concert events, where live orchestras perform alongside projected films, have become a signature draw. The Lord of the Rings live concert series is one example of the programming that introduces new generations to the power of a full orchestra. The venue also hosts university and community events, making it a genuine gathering point for Austin's arts community.

Group sales, premium seating options, and accessibility accommodations are available for most productions. The hall's professional event staff can assist with seating questions, accessibility needs, and special occasion arrangements to make any visit exceptional.

"Great venue! We sat in Section V (148) at Bass Concert Hall and had a fantastic view of the stage; clear sightlines and close enough to feel fully immersed in the performance. The seating was comfortable with good legroom, and the overall layout made it easy to get in and out without hassle. The acoustics were impressive, and the staff kept everything running smoothly from entry to exit. Would absolutely come back for another show here!"

"My daughter and I traveled from Houstin ti Austin to see SIX The Musical at Bass. It was really a great facility. Staff was kind. My only suggestion is they need more restrooms (lol) and better signage to get you from the parking desk to the event space."

"We had a great experience at Bass. We chose to valet park, which allowed us plenty of time to relax in the lounge areas. Don’t come hungry, though, the food is way overpriced. Some upcharge is always expected at these venues, but it was beyond here. One glass of wine was $35 after a small tip. Live and learn. The venue is well fashioned and clean. The staff was kind and helpful."
